A Complete health guide for people working from home

The life of an IT professional revolves around their computers and laptops. Almost all of their working time is spent sitting. Many other professionals work from their desks but they still manage to have some time off during meetings orother tasks. In the case of an IT professional, the workstation is where they will be found almost 100% of their time. Even when they are not working, they are busy looking at the new trends or things to learn.

When you are glued to your seat and a screen for hours in a day, your overall health is bound to be impacted. Your posture, weight, eyesight and fingers, etc. are all bound to go through deterioration if you do not take proper precautions.
Following are some easy, but very important tips that will help IT professionals stay in shape (and good health):

1.Healthy start

The most important tip for a great day is to start with a hearty and healthy breakfast. Wake up early and take a proper breakfast consisting of protein, carbs and fats. A mere bowl of cornflakes mixed with some fruit is also good and still better than sandwich or bread slices. Remember thatthe sugar loaded breakfast cereals, granola bars, and breakfast cookies are not good breakfast.

2.Healthy snacks at proper intervals

It is very easy to get sucked into the vicious circle of crispy chips and delectable cookies. While working on the screen with no other form of entertainment or place to go, one usually likes to munch on tasty munchies. However, that is the worst thing you can do to yourself and your health. Keep healthy snacks such as cheese, vegetables, fruits, and nuts with you to satiate your cravings every 2-3 hours.

3.Liquids

Liquids especially water is one of the best source of hydration that you can give yourself. It will keep you fresh, alert and hydrated throughout the day. Moreover, it will give you a constant excuse to take short walks to the bathroom throughout the day. Don’t consume too much tea and coffee thinking that it will keep you alert.

4.Desk exercises

No doubt getting in an exercise every day with a full time job is not easy. However, every little counts and can be your gateway to better health. Get into the routine of doing everyday desk exercises which includes stretching your neck, hands, legs and other stiff muscles that come with sitting in the same place all day.

5.Good posture

Good posture is crucial to good back health. Sitting slumped on your laptop at your desk will do only harm to your body. So try to sit up straight, push hips as far as they can in the chair, adjust the chair height to ensure that your feet are flat on the floor and keep arms and elbows in a position that your shoulders are relaxed.

6.Sleep on time

No one can be healthy if they are not sleeping sufficiently. Good, well rested sleep is integral to your health. If you do not take in 6-8 hours of sleep every day, you will be at a risk of burning out. So put your Netflix and social networking at a hold at night and go to bed at the right time.

7.Breathing exercises

The benefits of breathing deeply in and out for good health are often overlooked by many people. However, deep and proper breathing exercises can greatly help you in reducing stress, keeping your body fit, releasing endorphins, lowering blood pressure and promoting oxygen circulation.

8.Take regular time offs

According to the annual leaves assigned to you by your office, try to distribute them evenly to take in a short break from work every 3-4 months. This will keep your mind and body relaxed as well as refreshed. You do not need to take an expensive vacation every 3-4 months. However, even some relaxing at home, doing something you love or catching up with loved ones and friends will be a positive step towards good health.

Health is not something that you can overlook for a long time. This is more important than any other thing you can achieve in your career. So, instead of following a lifestyle that only focuses on work, it is important to keep your physical and mental health on top.
